Architectural Photography in Southern Region of Spain, Fall 2022

Independent Project Funded by National Benjamin A. Gilman and the TAF O’neil Traveling Grant

From December 19-31st, I independently traveled to the southern region of Spain, Andalucia, to road trip between Malaga, Granada, Cordoba, Seville Ronda and Cadiz. My study was funded by Benjamin A. Gilman and the TAF O’neil Traveling Scholarship as well as the Support of Jaja Architects. The goal of my independent study was to photograph the architectural character of southern Spanish architecture primarily using my medium format film camera in completing a photobook.

I worked with other Jaja colleagues to plan the trip and hear their perspective on the cities that I was visiting as they were naturally globally versed. I was able to refine aspirations for this book with them and collaborate on the direction the book could go in. I am currently in the process of putting the photobook together as I've completed scanning the negatives and categorizing the photos digitized. These are a select few photographs.

Cadíz

I anticipated that I would enjoy and shoot better photographs in larger cities like Grenada and Seville, but I found the coastal cities like Cadíz and towns I passed through on my drives to be the most remarkable and memorable in every way.
